I was part of a team led by Bethany Allen and Graeme Lloyd that developed an online workshop on sampling bias in the fossil record for the virtual Progressive Palaeontology conference hosted by the University of Leeds in June 2020.
The workshop covers downloading and plotting palaeodiversity and sampling data from the Paleobiology Database as well as performing subsampling methodologies such as rarefaction, bootstrap resampling, sharehold quorum subsampling (SQS) and Squares. All the R code for the workshop can be found on Bethany Allen’s GitHub.
The workshop also contains videos by me and Graeme Lloyd on the sources of sampling biases in the fossil record and how to quantitatively identify and deal with them. These videos are hosted on the Palaeontological Association YouTube channel.
The virtual workshop I developed with @AlexDunhill and @GraemeTLloyd for @ProgPal2020 is now freely, publicly available (thanks to @ThePalAss for video hosting). If you'd like an introduction to 'Sampling Bias in the Fossil Record' then take a look! ππ¦https://t.co/Nepg2yhdgO
