I was delighted to receive the Murchison Fund award for 2020 at the Geological Society of London virtual awards ceremony via Zoom last night. I got the certificate through the post last week and look forward to hanging it in my office once we are allowed back in the building.

I just want to thank the Geological Society of London for give me such a prestigious award (I was very shocked when I got that email back in Dec 2019!). I would also like to thank my nominators for putting me forward (I think I know who you are even though you never told me). Also, many thanks to my many collaborators and colleagues whom without their input to my work I would not be in a position to receive this award. I’d also like to thank my Masters and PhD research students who have produced some fantastic work over the years – you really do make me look good!
Finally, a big thanks to my parents (who watched the ceremony via the Geol Soc public link) for their continued support and for never telling me to get a real job and a massive thanks to my wife for supporting me through the years of poor pay and terrible job security (at the expense of her own career). I am eternally grateful for all that you do for me.
