Life on Earth has suffered a number of catastrophic blows over the past 500 million years… My talk, aimed in Year 10 to Year 13 students (GCSE & A-level) will explore how palaeobiologists have been able to identify mass extinctions in the fossil record, when and why they happened, how life survived and recovered, and whether we should be concerned about current levels of extinction.
